We’ve long been fond of Moka & Vanille, a restored farmhouse turned guesthouse located in Heusden-Zolder, a village in the Belgian province of Limburg. Owner (and interior designer) Dorine Cooreman has meticulously overhauled the interior, creating an understated, luxurious sanctuary—custom-designed linens, ceramics by Anja Meeusen of PTZE Porselein, and solid oak pieces from former furniture maker Malvini included.

Above: Cooreman mixes ancient elements (the original brick floor) with new pieces (the white molded plywood dining chairs), plus newer pieces that look old (like the glazed, wrought-iron windows and doors on the ground level).

Above: Rough-sawn, bleached wood flooring is covered with a natural-fiber striped rug, at left. (Cooreman offers a variety of similar Rugs for sale on her shop site, called Moka Tales.) At right, the designer’s AA Chair in natural leather.

Above: A linen slipcovered sofa with throw pillow made from a repurposed kilim. To the right of the sofa stands the designer’s black steel Floorlamp 4110.

Above: In the shared living room, Cooreman installed an antique black cabinet and placed art objects atop.
Above: Understated luxury in a below-eaves bedroom, attained with crisp linens designed by Cooreman, fresh paint, and linen-upholstered headboards. Photograph by Jo Pauwels, courtesy of Moka & Vanille. Above, L to R: In an attic bedroom, Cooreman built wood-paneled cabinets into the walls under the rafters. In the bathroom, a modern industrial faucet contrasts with a hand-thrown porcelain basin by ceramist Anja Meeusen.
Above: The designer used earthy lime paint throughout the interiors, including one dark gray bed and bath, and left original beams exposed.
Above: The pastoral property still has an orchard and farm animals, including sheep, chickens, and donkeys.
