Have you discovered in this life that there are friends and then? There are FRIENDS.
You know.
FRIENDS that make you banana bread and bring it by your house with coffee because you had a bad day.
FRIENDS that know you love to play mahjong and they learn the game just for you.
FRIENDS that know you don’t really cook and bring over dinner when it’s movie night.
And then?
There are the very best kind of friends.
FRIENDS that text you when they are at an estate sale and find a treasure trove of blue and white and they know you aren’t home to shop so they offer to shop for you instead.
(My sweet friend Susan, I’m looking at you.)
Wait until you see what she found—five of the prettiest, unique and creative and beautiful blue and white pieces I have ever seen.
I love them all so much…
…except for one thing.
I have literally NO IDEA what two of them are used for. You are brilliant, so I thought you might know.
See what I mean about friends like you? Those are the very BEST kind of friends.

Here are the five blue and white vintage pieces that she found.
Let’s start with my favorite.
The pictures she sent me were of an entire set of tons of pieces all from this blue and white pattern. There were so many individual pieces and you could tell that a collector had put them all together. I have tons of blue and white plates already, but I’m always on the lookout for more trays.
Isn’t it beautiful? The tray is square with ridges around the sides.
I’ve been trying to research this pattern.
Have you ever seen it?

She also got this beautiful sugar and creamer set for me.
The set is from the same pattern with the most delicate lines and prettiest details.
Even the handles are painted, too.

And then? There’s this piece.
It’s small with a removable top (look at the little stripes on the top) and handles on the side.
It’s almost like a tiny little soup tureen.
The lid has holes in the top like a salt or pepper shaker, but you can’t shake it because the lid would fall off.
Do you have ANY idea what it’s used for?
Maybe spices?
Maybe tea?
Can you help a friend out?

And the final piece that I have no idea about?
This tiny dish with a fish base. The tail of the fish winds around and makes the handle.
On top of the fish is a tiny dish.
It’s SO CUTE, but WHAT IN THE WORLD?
Maybe lemons?
Maybe a fish finger bowl?
Maybe it’s just decorative, but I thought that there must be a use.
Can you help a friend out?

I’m going to use all these pieces to decorate the living room this fall.
There is a LOT of blue and white in this space and I think a few more pieces on the bookcases will fit perfectly.
You know what else this blue and white living room is all about for fall?
Orange.
Blue and white go so perfectly with orange for fall.
Are you up for a little fall inspiration? I wasn’t going to share anything yet, but it was 105 degrees here yesterday and I’m trying to distract myself with last year’s fall decor and planning out what I’m doing this year.

The mantel is so simple to create.
It’s just a few blue and white pumpkins and these bittersweet branches.
I got the bittersweet branches at Hobby Lobby. They had some again this year at my local store, but you can’t link them online so I found some that are super similar here.
You can see the bittersweet branches here.
I already had blue and white on the mantel along with these battery-operated candle sticks. They are AMAZING. The candles are real wax and they operate on batteries and you can adjust the flame to make it look like a real flicker. I turn the candles on and off with a remote and set a timer. These candles are so perfect for cozy fall evenings and you can set them to come on every night.
You can see the candles here.
(total aside: we shared the best lighting solutions like these candles here).

// blue and white striped chair // fall ficus tree //
I also added pops of color on this side of the room.
There’s a table in the middle of the bay window and I added more bittersweet branches in a glass vase and blue and white pumpkins.
The pumpkins I found are sold out—but look at these cute blue and white pumpkins I just found at TJ Maxx.

And my favorite pop of orange in the room?
This fall ficus tree.
Y’all. It is GOLD.
The leaves are so realistic and the colors are so brilliantly fall and it’s six feet tall.
You can see the ficus tree here.
See what I mean? It doesn’t take much orange to make a difference. If you count the pops of orange color in the room you will see there are only about five.
That’s it.
Just five pops of color are all the stand between a boring room and one that looks like it’s ready for fall.

So what do you think?
Can you see all my new blue and white vintage finds in the space?
But first we have to figure out what two of them are.
Orange you going to give me an opinion?
(So so so so sorry. I just couldn’t resist. It was such low-hanging joke fruit. )

PS I linked everything that I could over here on my Amazon page.
You can see everything here.
Let me know if I missed anything.
Especially if it’s orange.
