There are so many different opinions on home decor and I have plenty. Here are 7 of my favorite unpopular home decor opinions.

// smaller lilac arrangement / extra large wood bead garland //
Do you know what just popped into my brain?
An unpopular opinion.
You know.
An opinion that goes against the grain. It’s when all the fish in the pond are swimming one way and then one lone fish decides to change it up in the water and go the complete opposite direction.
Do you want to know some of my unpopular opinions? And if I share them, can we still be friends?
Here goes nothing.
Yikes.
1. I think shiplap has had its day in the sun. I’m kind of over it.
2. Open floor plans are a little overrated (remember this is coming from the person in a home built in 1908).
3. All furniture does not need to be painted (and this holds true for old vintage doors, too).
4. Every single wall does not need to be decorated. Let the walls breathe.
5. Not every room needs a rug.
6. Overhead lighting makes me want to curl up in a ball.
And lastly?
{gulp}
Perhaps the most controversial, unpopular opinion of all is…..

// larger floral arrangement // smaller lilac arrangement // extra large wood bead garland // mini gold terrarium //
7. Faux plants are so much better than real houseplants on their last legs.
There.
I said it.
I write a home decor blog.
I’m supposed to be cutting flowers from my garden like they do on HGTV.
But I am a real person with real life and real busy and I’m not that good with keeping plants alive.
So I truly love faux plants.
Especially when they look like these faux flower pots.

// green branches in glass vase // large gold terrarium // striped pillow //
Faux plants have come SO FAR.
These are not the faux plants from the Brady Bunch house.
I mean, seriously.
Look at those lilacs and flowers.
If you glanced in my family room, you would totally think that they were real.
You can see the smaller arrangement here and the larger arrangement here.

// larger floral arrangement // smaller lilac arrangement // extra large wood bead garland // mini gold terrarium //
The arrangements come in their own vase with the greenery.
I added a little refresh once I took down the Easter eggs and added both arrangements to a wood tray.
Then I added wood beads like this and this small gold terrarium.
I put the cutest little house with greenery in the middle of the terrarium.

// green branches in glass vase // large gold terrarium // striped pillow //

// boxwood sphere //
I decorated the hutch and the table at the back of the couch with my collection of small wood houses.
I love these houses made by a local artist (who even made a version of our house, too).
She’s going to be making a very special collection for our new online shop.
(total aside: I shared these boxwood spheres last year, but they are such a great value and so much fun to decorate with. You can see them here.)

// large sculptural basket //
And look at this basket I found.
The shape looks like art.
And that is NOT an unpopular opinion.
It’s lightweight and comes in two different sizes (this is the larger of the two sizes) and it holds about 4-5 blankets.
You can see the sculptural basket here.

// Allium faux flowers // boxwood sphere / woven bowl //
I carried the pink flower theme over to the other side of the room with this woven bowl full of moss and boxwood spheres and faux Allium flowers.
The flowers are cut off their stems and added to the bowl as a bowl filler.
If you are looking for other creative bowl filler ideas? I shared 21 more here.
You can see the woven bowl here.

So what do you think of my unpopular opinions?
Do you agree?
Do you disagree?
Or do you have other unpopular opinions you want to share?
I am HERE for it.
Let’s discuss in the comments.

PS A giant thank you to everyone who attended the ZOOM meeting on how to make illustrations like this!
Here’s the one that we created in the meeting!
