Do you remember last week when I went to Louisiana to see Point of Grace?
You can read all about my trip and see a zillion pictures of the Air BnB that we stayed in here.
But as amazing as this room is?
Wait until you see the outfit I wore.
The only thing better than going to a concert to listen to the songs that easily comprise the playlist of your life…
….is planning the perfect outfit to wear to celebrate.
It had to be kind of fancy.
But not too fancy.
It had to be comfortable (what if I started dancing).
But not too comfortable.
It had to look like I tried to be cute.
But not like I tried too hard.
Sigh.
I needed a dress that understood the assignment.

So in a vain attempt to find THE DRESS….
…..I started reading fashion blogs.
For someone who buys her t-shirts at Walmart it’s been a little intimidating.
To say the least.
It’s a whole other world of glamorous, stylish people who effortlessly mix florals and stripes and wear at least five bracelets and use terms like “statement necklaces” and “boyfriend jeans” all while perching precariously on six-inch high platform shoes.
But I learned so much.
I’ve learned that everyone should own at least one pair of statement jeans and a classic white button down and scallops and eyelet embroidery are current trends and that you can mix polka dots and stripes and a peplum can truly be flattering….
….and everyone should own a pair of shoe clips.

// shoe clips //
And so I followed the 2024 fashion rules….
….and bought all these shoe clips.
Remember when I shared all the shoe clips and how they have kind of changed my life.
And while I love my shoe clips—the ones I have don’t match every outfit–especially the outfit I found for the concertabration down in Louisiana. The dress I bought was a not-too-fancy-but-fancy-enough-with-extra-embroidery-flare-at-the-bottom-comfortable-but-not-too-comfortable-little-bit-of-KariAnne-couture.
It was amazing.
It was perfect.
It was blue and white.

And since none of my shoe clips matched my new dress?
I did the only thing a crafty girl can do when faced with a decorating dilemma.
I DIY’d my own.
I took these blue and white bows and hot glued these clips to the back and when I was finished? I looked at my DIY bow clips AND PATTED MYSELF ON THE BACK.
“Genius, KariAnne,” I told myself. “Absolute genius.”

I put on my dress and clipped those bows on my shoes and curled my hair and added statement earrings and my new red lipstick and headed out the door.
At the risk of stating the obvious?
I look AMAZING.

It was showtime.
And I was READY.
I walked in the front door of this house and met POINT OF GRACE.
Yep.
THE Point of Grace.
They were right there on the other side of the door and they were kind and wonderful and we laughed and talked and I told them a story and then I headed into the dining room to get refreshments.
Oh, the people we met….my shoe clips and I.
And everywhere I went I could feel people looking at my outfit. Sometimes they would even walk by and look at me….and then look again….
…..as if my DIY shoe clips and I had left them speechless.
Sigh.
It was amazing.
Overnight I became a fashionista.
Those fashion bloggers were so right—2024 WAS the year of the shoe clips.
And then?
In the middle of the dining room with a lemonade in one hand and a napkin in the other—I happened to glance down and suddenly something caught my eye.
I blinked.
And stared. And blinked again. And now the reason why everyone had been staring became so painfully, embarrassingly, shamefully, abundantly clear. Because at the end of my shoes hanging on by a strand of hot glue and flopping around like they were at the circus were….
….MY SHOE CLIPS.
I couldn’t believe it.
I wanted to cry and sink down into a hole in the middle of the living room. I’d worked so hard. I’d planned and hoped and dreamed and now?
Unlike my dress somehow my DIY shoe clips did NOT UNDERSTAND THE ASSIGNMENT.
I looked around to see if anyone was watching and grabbed one of the clips off the end of my shoe and snatched up the other clip that had already fallen on the floor—wrapped the stray hot glue strands around them and stuffed them in my pocket.
*sigh*
In the school of fashion DIY knocks—I definitely learned my lesson.
Truth?
I’m going to stick to DIYing my home…
….and leave the shoe clips to the professionals.
