How do you say mauve?

Is it M OH ve?

Or M AH ve?

And while we are on the topic….when you say niche……do you say nich or neesh?

When you say cache….do you say cashay or cash?

When you say nuclear….do you say nu-cu-lar or nu-clee-ur?

Sigh.

Or do you just say nothing….

…..because you don’t want to say the wrong thing.

Or just mumble and hope that someone thinks you are eating a Twix.

I’m asking because I’m all about mauve right now (I’m looking at you 1992).

Especially when it’s mixed with orange for fall in a wreath like this. I love this wreath. It’s on my front door and I just added the CUTEST thing to make the wreath POP.

Today is all about wreaths and simple ideas to take wreaths to the next level.

Here are 5 simple holiday wreath hacks.

1. Add a wreath sash

Did you see what I did?

I took this wreath from before to after with this simple hack.

LET’S GO.

I added a wreath sash.

Just between us? I’ve been wanting a wreath sash forever, but all the ones I was looking at were so expensive. So I tried ribbons and different options, but there’s just something about a wreath sash that’s so perfect on a wreath. Here’s why I love a wreath sash:

  • they are SO easy to tie
  • I just single knotted this wreath sash and it hung perfectly (I think I need to iron it though)
  • you can also tie it in a bow (but I like the way it hangs down)
  • I think I’m going to have it monogrammed here locally (maybe in mauve)
  • this set that I ordered actually came with two wreath sashes (you won’t believe how affordable they were) the plaid and the check
  • you can see the wreath sash set here

2. Tuck real foliage into a faux wreath

This is one of my favorite holiday wreath hacks.

You know those kind of sad-looking wreaths that you pull out from your Christmas bins? It’s kind of smushed on one side and you think it’s not going to make it for another year.

Here’s a creative idea:

  • this works best on an outdoor wreath
  • cut fresh greenery from the yard (magnolia or pine works SO WELL for this)
  • just wire the fresh greenery using floral wire into the faux wreath
  • it instantly elevates the faux wreath
  • my greenery stayed for at least a month in the cooler temps (I spritzed it with water every couple of days)

3. Add a scarf to a wreath

If you have an extra scarf lying around?

Why not add it to a wreath?

We don’t really use scarves that much in Texas, so they make perfect wreath bows.

Here are a few tips for this holiday wreath hack:

  • I used this scarf on this flocked wreath (not the smartest idea)
  • the flocking kept getting on the scarf
  • don’t be like me—choose a wreath that doesn’t have flocking
  • you can see detailed instructions here, but essentially all you do is tie a bow with the scarf on the wreath

4. Create a wreath from dropcloth wreath

I love a DIY wreath—especially when you can make it in an afternoon from thing I had lying around.

This wreath is just leaves cut from drop cloth and glued to a wire wreath form.

You can see the instructions here.

Here are a few tips for this holiday wreath hack:

  • I just used a plain khaki dropcloth
  • but you could dye the drop cloth too in different colors (or the same colors)
  • make sure you pinch the ends of the leaves to make sure that the leaves stand out on the wreath
  • if you don’t have a wire wreath form, you could also glue the leaves to a cardboard circle instead

5. Add a center to a wreath

Okay simple idea that makes a wreath SO MUCH CUTER.

Don’t forget about the middle.

Yep.

You can just add things to the middle of the wreath to make it stand out.

Here are a few ideas of things to add to the center of a wreath:

  • a three-letter monogram
  • a wood slice with a painted monogram
  • a chalkboard
  • a sign
  • another smaller wreath
  • jingle bells
  • a big bow

Five simple holiday wreath hacks to take your front door to the next level.

And for the record….I say “erb.”

And nich.

And cash.

And nu-clee-ar.

But I never, ever, ever…..

….just say nothing.

PS This isn’t a wreath hack, but it was too cute not to share.

I just found this at Walmart for under $12. Isn’t it perfect for now through Christmas?
