A rustic wreath made of twigs, adorned with small mushrooms, cream-colored berries, and green foliage, hangs on a white door. The wreath is also decorated with delicate, intertwining white branches.

Can I ask you a question?

Have you ever imagined a change for one of the spaces in your home in your mind?

You planned it and imagined and dreamed about it.

And then?

One day you actually decorate the space that you’ve been thinking about for months and months.

Truth?

Sometimes when I actually change up a space with something new it doesn’t turn out like I expected.  It’s like my plans in my head don’t match what I’m trying to do and I have to return to the drawing board and start dreaming up a new vision for the space.

But sometimes.

Sometimes when the stars align and the angels sing and the universe collectively decides to cooperate and all is right with the world.

Sometimes the room turns out BETTER THAN I COULD EVEN IMAGINE.

Especially when my staircase entryway tries on a new outfit.

And looks like THIS.

A staircase adorned with white pumpkins and a fall-themed wreath leads up beside a bench with cushions and pumpkins. The staircase has a white balustrade and wooden steps. A basket filled with white pumpkins sits under the bench. A sign reading "Office" is on a wooden door nearby.

// 4 x 6 area rug //tufted bench (super similar) // mushroom wreath // wheat pillows //

I see you rock star.

Look at that mushroom wreath and the changes I made to the entryway to get ready for fall.

SERIOUSLY.

Did you see the little mushrooms dancing in the wreath?

And those new wheat pillows? I love how they make the rug look more fall.

It’s a light khaki layered in with white and brown with the slightest hint of gray.

You can see the rug here.

A bright and cozy foyer with a stylish staircase, cushioned bench, and decorative pumpkins. There's a chandelier hanging from the ceiling, a floral wreath on the stair railing, and light streaming in from a large front door and windows.

Here’s the staircase from a different angle.

You can see the flower arrangement that I made last week on the table in the far corner.

There is so much light coming in from the staircase and it warms up the entire space.

But the most amazing thing about this little fall makeover?

I spent under $75 to update the room for fall.

A decorative arrangement featuring two large white pumpkins, one medium white pumpkin, a small white pumpkin, and a large woven pumpkin, all placed on a wooden surface. Small toy military figures are positioned on top of two of the pumpkins.

A close-up view of a festive wreath adorned with various decorations, including red and white berries, green fir branches, and brown and pink round ornaments. The background is softly blurred, highlighting the natural and holiday elements of the wreath.

A staircase with a patterned carpet runner has several white pumpkins of varying sizes placed along the steps against a white wooden railing. The pumpkins create a festive and decorative autumn display.

Here’s the view from the bottom and the top of the staircase.

I added pumpkins going up the stairs and then I added more pumpkins at the foot of the stairs.

I’m thinking about getting some mushrooms and tucking just a few into the pumpkin displays.

Not too many—I don’t want to mushroom overdo it.

A cozy scene featuring a light brown pillow with a white leaf pattern, resting against a white paneled wall. In front of the pillow are two white pumpkins of different sizes, and a festive autumn wreath is partially visible above.

I used to have my husband’s grandmother’s bench here, but I moved it to the bay window in the front living room.

A bench is perfect here to keep purses and bags and have a place to sit.

These wheat pillows are so perfect for fall. They come in two different colorways and they are from the My Texas House line at Walmart and they are under $15 (with the insert). I thought about making mushroom tassels for the corners of the pillows, but then I wondered if I was taking the theme too far.

I’m all about a theme (just ask the prom decorating committee).

Last year’s pillow like this sold out in a couple of days, so don’t sleep on this pillow.

Literally.

(Just a little pillow humor today.

Close-up of a packaged rolled-up rug. The label on the packaging details its features, including "Stain & fade resistant." The material composition and care instructions are also partially visible. The image is focused on the product label.

One thing I did want to mention about the rug? Look at this. I never thought I’d be happier to see those two words in my entire life.

Stain resistant.

Sigh.

Isn’t that the most glorious of words?

Buddy, I’m looking at you.

And this room gets so much sun through the windows near the bench seat, so I love a little fade-resistance, too.

So many of you ask me how I keep my rugs in place.

I use area rug grip strips like these.

They come in a set of eight so you have enough for two rugs.

I also use rug gripper tape like this if you need more stickiness to hold the rug in place.

I also have this great tip that I’ve shared before if you need to have the corners of your rug lay flat.

A cozy autumn-themed decor setup with a bouquet of pink and green flowers in a white textured vase. Wooden pumpkins are placed on a marble-topped table, and a rustic abacus with pastel beads hangs on the wall in the background.

A small wooden cabinet with dark knobs sits by a window. On top of the cabinet are decorative items including a ceramic vase with pink and orange flowers, a wooden pumpkin, and a wicker container. An antique thread spool rack hangs on the wall above the cabinet.

When I shared this flower arrangement, I got a few questions about this piece on the wall.

This vintage balloon mold that I found at a yard sale is one of my all-time favorite finds.

You can read that yard sale story here.

A wicker basket filled with white and cream pumpkins sits beneath a cushioned bench. The woven basket rests on a patterned rug, creating a cozy and autumnal vignette.

I love a project that turns out better than I could ever even imagine especially when you can makeover a space for fall with stuff you already had in the house, some vintage finds and some of the cutest fall finds for under $75.

(total aside: I know I mentioned that before, but it just makes me so happy every time I type it.)

And now?

The room was freshened up in an afternoon.

And it’s ready for fall.

Just. Like. Me.:)A collection of six affordable entryway rugs is shown. The top row features a beige rug and a dark blue patterned rug. The middle row displays a blue and beige rug and a white and gray patterned rug. The bottom row has a light pink rug and a light blue patterned rug.

PS Here are some other options for affordable smaller entryway rugs in case you were looking for a new rug for fall.
