Can I ask you a question?
Have you ever imagined a change for one of the spaces in your home in your mind?
You planned it and imagined and dreamed about it.
And then?
One day you actually decorate the space that you’ve been thinking about for months and months.
Truth?
Sometimes when I actually change up a space with something new it doesn’t turn out like I expected. It’s like my plans in my head don’t match what I’m trying to do and I have to return to the drawing board and start dreaming up a new vision for the space.
But sometimes.
Sometimes when the stars align and the angels sing and the universe collectively decides to cooperate and all is right with the world.
Sometimes the room turns out BETTER THAN I COULD EVEN IMAGINE.
Especially when my staircase entryway tries on a new outfit.
And looks like THIS.

// 4 x 6 area rug //tufted bench (super similar) // mushroom wreath // wheat pillows //
I see you rock star.
Look at that mushroom wreath and the changes I made to the entryway to get ready for fall.
SERIOUSLY.
Did you see the little mushrooms dancing in the wreath?
And those new wheat pillows? I love how they make the rug look more fall.
It’s a light khaki layered in with white and brown with the slightest hint of gray.
You can see the rug here.

Here’s the staircase from a different angle.
You can see the flower arrangement that I made last week on the table in the far corner.
There is so much light coming in from the staircase and it warms up the entire space.
But the most amazing thing about this little fall makeover?
I spent under $75 to update the room for fall.

Here’s the view from the bottom and the top of the staircase.
I added pumpkins going up the stairs and then I added more pumpkins at the foot of the stairs.
I’m thinking about getting some mushrooms and tucking just a few into the pumpkin displays.
Not too many—I don’t want to mushroom overdo it.

I used to have my husband’s grandmother’s bench here, but I moved it to the bay window in the front living room.
A bench is perfect here to keep purses and bags and have a place to sit.
These wheat pillows are so perfect for fall. They come in two different colorways and they are from the My Texas House line at Walmart and they are under $15 (with the insert). I thought about making mushroom tassels for the corners of the pillows, but then I wondered if I was taking the theme too far.
I’m all about a theme (just ask the prom decorating committee).
Last year’s pillow like this sold out in a couple of days, so don’t sleep on this pillow.
Literally.
(Just a little pillow humor today.

One thing I did want to mention about the rug? Look at this. I never thought I’d be happier to see those two words in my entire life.
Stain resistant.
Sigh.
Isn’t that the most glorious of words?
Buddy, I’m looking at you.
And this room gets so much sun through the windows near the bench seat, so I love a little fade-resistance, too.

So many of you ask me how I keep my rugs in place.
I use area rug grip strips like these.
They come in a set of eight so you have enough for two rugs.
I also use rug gripper tape like this if you need more stickiness to hold the rug in place.
I also have this great tip that I’ve shared before if you need to have the corners of your rug lay flat.

// artichoke stems // pomegranate stems // pink flowers (similar) // white vase (similar) //

When I shared this flower arrangement, I got a few questions about this piece on the wall.
This vintage balloon mold that I found at a yard sale is one of my all-time favorite finds.
You can read that yard sale story here.

I love a project that turns out better than I could ever even imagine especially when you can makeover a space for fall with stuff you already had in the house, some vintage finds and some of the cutest fall finds for under $75.
(total aside: I know I mentioned that before, but it just makes me so happy every time I type it.)
And now?
The room was freshened up in an afternoon.
And it’s ready for fall.
Just. Like. Me.:)
