Looking for simple scrap wood project ideas? Here are 7 ideas that you can make with leftover wood scraps.

I’m not sure if you remember the story of these doors.
In case you missed it the first time (which is completely possible because there are always a plethora of stories going on around here) you can read the story in its entirety here.
If you are on your second cup of coffee and don’t have time to read the story, let me Reader’s Digest it for you.
Several decades ago, I stood right here in front of these doors with my father wearing my grandmother’s wedding dress with a monogrammed train and a veil covering the highest head of Aqua Net hair you have ever seen with a red lipstick smile the size of Texas and on the other side, a tuxedo-wearing cutie was waiting for me in a room filled with twinkly Christmas trees and a white aisle runner and candles with the scent of evergreen filling the air.
I know, right?
These exact doors.
These are the wedding day doors from all those years ago.
Except.
Except the doors are part of a building that’s going away. They were destined to be demolished.
Kaput.
Finished.
No more weddings or parties or celebrations or door openings. I wanted to mention the story and the doors and the wedding, well, partly because today is Valentine’s Day and partly because?
Yesterday this happened.

YIKES.
Can you believe it?
The building renovation has started.
The center of that roof is almost exactly where the doors are.
Or were.
BECAUSE THE DOORS CAME HOME WITH ME.
Yep.
We saved them.
Sigh.
The doors are living their best lives right now, just waiting for this.

Remember when I told you I couldn’t figure out what to do with them?
I should have just CHECKED MY VERY OWN BLOG.
Hee hee.
I have so many wood projects including this one.

It’s a bench made out of a door.
Isn’t that kind of genius?
My brother built this over 10 years ago and my mother still has it at her house.
The moral of the story? A bench from a door really holds up.

Isn’t it the cleverest idea?
If you want to see how to build a bench from a door, I had my brother write up instructions and you can see them here.
I think I have enough for us to build the bench and with the wood scraps that are left over? I found a few other projects.
I want those doors to go as long as they can.
Here are 6 other ideas for scrap wood projects I found on this very blog.
7 DIY Scrap Wood Project Ideas

Giant Tic Tac Toe Board
I think that Tic Tac Toe is the funniest word to type.
Maybe it’s the toe part (not really sure how that got in there).
It’s also an amazing idea for scrap wood, too.
You can see the how-to for this project here.

Wood Stool
This is a version of the door, but I thought it would be such a cute project if we had enough wood.
Maybe two stools for the end of a bed?
Or the hallway.
You can see the DIY for the reclaimed wood stool here.

Wood Cornice Board
This is such a fun project because you can make it almost completely from scraps.
It’s a creative idea for a window.
You can see the wood cornice board DIY here.

Wood Block Letters
This is one of the most pinned projects on my blog.
These are letters that I made from scraps left over from another project.
So easy to make and perfect for small scraps of wood.
You can see the DIY for the letters here.

DIY Wood Clock
This is such a fun idea for scrap wood.
If it’s not the look you are going for, you don’t have to carve the numbers
You could always paint the numbers on instead.
You can see the DIY for the wood clock here.

Scrap Wood Heart
And of course, I saved this one for last.
What better project for scrap wood from a door like this than a heart?
It’s kind of like a puzzle, cut the scrap wood to fit on a piece of plywood cut in the shape of a heart.
You can add hinges or other vintage metal pieces (or even a lock and a key).

Here we are walking through the doors back then.
And here we are walking through those doors all those years later.
And now?
Those doors are coming home.
And if they thought their life was exciting before with all those weddings and parties and celebrations and door openings?
Just wait until they see what they’re going to look like now.
