Take the owners of this Victorian home (currently for sale on The Modern House) in the Ferndale neighborhood of London. According to designer Adam Bray, who took them on as clients when they decided to renovate, character and efficiency were the priorities.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the update, the kitchen \u201cwas perfectly nice, inherited from the previous owner,\u201d says Adam. \u201cBut the clients wanted to make it their own.\u201d To them, that meant a kitchen with personality and \u201ca feeling of not being too \u2018fitted,\u2019 which is why we used a big antique cupboard as a larder.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s take a tour to see what other personal touches they instituted.<\/p>\n<p>Photography courtesy of The Modern House.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/4255286967651108278.jpg\">  <br \/>Above: The palette is bold, with red being a dominant theme throughout. \u201cWe suggested [the color in the kitchen]. The client had been very bold with the color palette in the rest of the house, and it would have been a shame to lose confidence in the kitchen!\u201d says Adam, of the custom rust-red on the cabinets. On the walls is a peachy SC240 from Papers and Paints.<br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/458116451556785809.jpg\">  <br \/>Above: A marble countertop with integrated drainboard removes the need for a clunky dish rack in a small space. In lieu of a pantry closet or more built-in cabinets, they opted for a vintage armoire to store larder essentials.<br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/7527460344968606745.jpg\">  <br \/>Above: The south-facing room is small but a pair of Crittall steel doors leading to the patio helps bring in light.
