Come take a look at the latest from Vanderhurd, designer Christine Van Der Hurd\u2019s London-based rug and textile company which specializes in combining kindred colors and prints.<\/p>\n<p>Opticality, Vanderhurd\u2019s new block-printed linen designs, are available in the UK\u2014the Vanderhurd shop is on Portobello Road\u2014and at Studio Four NYC in Manhattan. Christine presents her latest collection in a series of pattern-on-pattern room settings that manage to feel composed, calm, and exciting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs long as there\u2019s continuity\u2014a nuance of color that runs through each fabric or rug\u2014you can go wild,\u201d she advises. \u201cStart with something you adore, such as an antique textile, a bespoke carpet, or an interesting print or weave\u2014and then build your scheme around it.\u201d Here\u2019s how she puts her Opticality designs to work.<\/p>\n<p>Photography by Oskar Proctor, courtesy of Vanderhurd.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/3113961645706666932.jpg\">  <br \/>Above: Vanderhurd\u2019s Tilt, like all of the Opticality fabrics, is hand block-printed in India on 100 percent linen and comes in a range of color combinations. The rug is Vanderhurd\u2019s Sands of Time Plain with Border, a hand-woven dhurrie of handspun hemp. The chair and table are from Remodelista favorite Howe of London.<br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/7244552375056196071.jpg\">  <br \/>Above: Christine Van Der Hurd began her career post-art school by designing textiles for Liberty\u2019s, Etro, and Yves Saint Laurent, among others. In the 1980s she lived in NYC and with a partner ran the furniture gallery Modernage. Along the way, she started receiving rug commissions\u2014Christine\u2019s the one who supplied all of the carpets for Henri Bendel on Fifth Avenue\u2014which led to the founding of Vanderhurd. Christine added textiles and wallpaper to the collection in recent years.,<\/p>\n<p>Studio Four founder, Stacy Waggoner, and Christine met in the late 1980s when Stacy worked for Jack Lenor Larsen\u2014Modernage was right downstairs. \u201cI\u2019ve been following Christine\u2019s career as a friend and fan ever since,\u201d Stacy tells us.
