Noticed of late: kitchens that look like furnished rooms as opposed to, well, kitchens. If you\u2019re intrigued by the trend, you may want to consider deVOL\u2019s Haberdasher\u2019s Kitchen line of modular cabinets inspired, says the company, by traditional British men\u2019s clothing stores and their \u201cglass doors and sliding drawers, of row upon row of lift-up oak cubbyholes full of ribbons and buttons, patterns and fabrics and soft balls of wool.\u201d<\/p>\n

Recently, deVOL reached out to us about their St. John\u2019s Square showroom kitchen, outfitted with their Haberdasher cupboards, in Clerkenwell, London. It\u2019s cozy, handsome, and characterful\u2014the perfect kind of kitchen for the coming cold-weather months.<\/p>\n

Above: This showroom kitchen is housed on the top floor of a Victorian townhouse and features the Haberdasher\u2019s Kitchen\u2019s stand-alone modular pieces in oiled oak (the line is available in multiple finishes and colors). The three-legged Creedy Stools are by deVOL.

Above: The midcentury-style oak cabinets, the company\u2019s first foray into unpainted cupboards, have been finished with one-coat tinted oil. The countertops are honed Carrara marble; the marble on the island is extra thin (20mm) for an elegant look. The pendant light is simply a filament bulb purchased from a local hardware store. The stove is by Bertazzoni.

Above: \u201cThe design all started with the curved wall by the cooker and the low windows,\u201d says creative director Helen Parker. \u201cWe needed to accentuate both these original features whilst still allowing room for all the necessary kitchen storage and appliances.\u201d,

Above: On the other side, the breakfast nook and sink area. \u201cThe views out onto the square from this vantage point are impressive, and we love the idea of sitting at the table watching the world go by with a cocktail and an old book,\u201d says Parker.

Above: As in many of deVOL kitchens, Farrow & Ball paints play a prominent role. The walls are Down Pipe; the doors and trim Drop Cloth. The original floors have been painted a glossy black. <\/p>\n
